Morning warm up, an exercise in simple character design. Color, black and white, low chroma.

A little experiment. I’ve been having a lot of fun drawing the mice recently, so I went back to their origin, which was a single, throwaway appearance in Tamino. I redrew everything in the current style while keeping the setup the same. Then I added color to the characters to help make them pop and to emphasize the dreariness of the mice’s (meece’s?) neighborhood. Just a bit of fun.

My partner wandered in and said he liked this but preferred things in color. So I did a quick experiment where I kept the color saturation really low and tried to keep the contrast the same as the original. Oh, and there’s the original pencil sketch above.
